The style on this resembles the animated series look, as opposed to my more realistic rendered pieces (see my other slots).
For the background, what I normally do is maybe I add a simple gradient with some texture, or do a very simple BG. I don´t like at all those characters floating on a solid gray background, you should be able to hang the piece on your wall.
For example in this Dragon Ball piece, since the background is a simple blue sky and the plane below barely shows I don´t charge for BG.
