Brook Thompson, with artist name, “brookita corazón,” is a Minneapolis based artist who employs various media in her artwork, including: painting, drawing, pastel, printmaking, and muralism . She was born and raised in North Dakota and then studied and graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. After graduating she became part of a Minneapolis Artist Collective, collectively organizing and carrying out a trip to Mexico for an International Artist’s Conference with Mexican artists as well as filling the role as their language Interpreter and completing a collective mural in the Zapatista communities of Chiapas, Mexico. After her time in Mexico, as a fluent Spanish speaker, she travelled to Spain, where she resided for four years. Her life and time there continues to inspire her current artwork and process. Since moving back to the Twin Cities, she has shown her work in Minneapolis at Gamut Gallery, Art a Whirl, Minnesota Parade of Homes, and Abstracted Art Gallery. This past fall she completed a mural project in South Minneapolis on a local business. Her background and education in art stems back to childhood and has continued as an adult and post-graduate through her own self-teaching, workshops, travels, and becoming involved with the Minneapolis art community. Her art varies in styles, from Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, Figurative, Surrealism, Self-Portraits, and Landscapes. She has also developed her own Folk Style art using common themes of the human condition and nature portrayed in playful, colorful, and child-like images while also using common sayings or visual puns.
